Serving Ages 3-5 Years Old

Head Start is a free, federally funded, comprehensive, family-focused child development program serving children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. The program provides a center-based classroom learning setting 4 to 6 hours per day, five days a week or offers services where the program comes to you and your child.

To ensure holistic support, a Family Worker meets with families at least five times a year to assist them in accessing other community-based resources and social services that may offer additional services to support the family. Head Start focuses on promoting the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of children and encourages the self-sufficiency and self-determination of families.

Program Details

Head Start partners with families to build upon their individual strengths and ability to meet their own needs. Head Start promotes school readiness for children, free health screenings, nutritional support, and services for children with special needs or disabilities.

The most important member of Head Start is you! Parents and families are encouraged to participate in all aspects of the program, including:

  • Parent group meetings
  • Classroom & kitchen volunteers
  • Volunteering from home activities
  • Becoming a member of the governing body and participating in the Policy Council
  • Serving on the Tri-County CAP Board of Directors

Education & Early Childhood Development

Head Start believes parents are the primary teachers of their child(ren). Staff work directly with families to develop an individual education program based on the child’s current developmental milestones. Children participate in activities in either a center-based classroom or through a home visiting program. Educational opportunities and social development events are available for all members of the family.

Child Health & Development

Head Start believes in the early identification of health issues. Children in our care receive annual physical and dental screenings from a physician and dentist their family selects. Additionally, we conduct screenings to assess milestones in speech and language, behavior, development, hearing, vision, height, and weight.
