PREPARING CHILDREN FOR SCHOOL AND LIFE
Serving Ages 3-5 Years Old
Head Start is a federally funded, family-focused early childhood program for children ages 3 to 5, operated locally by Tri-County Community Action Program in Coös, Carroll, and Grafton counties.
Head Start helps children build the foundation they need for kindergarten and lifelong learning. In our welcoming, center-based classrooms, children learn through play, structured activities, and hands-on experiences that support their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
Families are an important part of our program. Each enrolled family is partnered with a dedicated Family Worker who provides ongoing support and helps connect families with additional community resources when needed.
What Head Start Provides
Head Start is designed to support the whole child and the whole family. Services include:
- A center-based classroom program, 4 hours per day (6 hours in Berlin and Littleton), 5 days a week
- Nutritious meals during the school day
- Berlin and Littleton provide breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack
- Colebrook, Conway, Groveton, Plymouth, Tamworth, and Whitefield provide breakfast and lunch
- Developmental, vision, hearing, and dental screenings
- Individualized learning experiences tailored to each child
- Support for children with disabilities
- Family support, education, and goal-setting opportunities
Education & Early Childhood Development
Our teachers create engaging learning environments that help children develop early literacy, language, math, and social skills. Activities are designed to encourage curiosity, independence, and confidence while preparing children for a successful transition to kindergarten.
We believe families are a child’s first and most important teachers. Head Start works alongside parents and caregivers to build on each child’s strengths and support long-term success.
